Seriously???

The anti-Sherrod Brown commercial came on my television.

Me: My family and I hate this commercial. It's such a distortion of the truth.
Roommate's Boyfriend (hereinafter named StupidChristian or SC): I don't care that he didn't pay his taxes. I care that his policies are communist.
Me: His policies are not communist. The choice is not just between a free, completely unregulated market and communist principles.
SC: No, but Sherrod's practically a communist.
Me: Whatever. You know he's a Christian? He starts his book by describing his trip to Israel and reading the Beatitudes on the hill where Christ delivered the Sermon on the Mount.
SC: If he were a Christian, wouldn't he support a culture of life and protect traditional marriage.
Me (rather indignantly): I'm a Christian and I don't support the protection of traditional marriage.
SC: Well, isn't that an oxymoranic [sic] statement.

This is why you're an ass and I'm sometimes embarrassed to tell people I'm a Christian. To answer N.J.'s question earlier this week, my response, in a not-so-polite way, was:

No, it's not oxymoronic. Jesus allowed in Matthew the Tax Collector alongside Simon the Zealot. Two sides of the revolution. If he can do that, I don't think he's supporting either Democrats or Republicans. You're brand of Christianity isn't the only one and your conservative principals are not the only politics for Christians.

Oh, and teach your girlfriend the meaning of the word "ironic" so she stops using it incorrectly in my presence.

Oh, and also, you're an asshole.

Comments:
Jesus speaks of judgment day in only one of the Gospels. In the Book of Matthew he poses four questions before entry into Heaven. None of which regard who you sleep with.

Of course, after every single right wing evangelical leader is turning out to be a closet case, maybe you should ask SC whether he has something to hide.

Good point, formerly. By the way, good to see you back!

i hear what you are saying about being xtian and not a republican. i agree that xtianity doesnt mean u have to be republican.

but to be honest...i think you should spend some time thinking about whether you really think Jesus would support abortion.
in all truth, christians aren't supposed to be involved in politics really given the nature of it...but we do have to respect the authorities in charge. however, the dirty wheeling and dealing involved is very uncharacteristic of the Christian faith

yes millions die of hunger every day. jesus isnt happy about that either. that doesnt mean you dodge the issue at hand tho. when i did bad things as a kid, i didnt tell my mom 'but millions of adults elsewhere are doing worse things right now!'
